Seomoon Tak – born Lee Su-Jin in Seoul, South Korea on March 3, 1978 – is a pop and rock singer who has been praised for her powerful voice and wide vocal range. Outside of her musical career, she has also performed in stage musicals in South Korea and Japan including Hedwig and the Angry Inch and The Who’s Tommy. A graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts (where she majored in production and engineering), she released her debut album, Asura, in 1999. The album was an enormous success, selling over 300,000 copies. Her second album, Seomoontak II, was released in 2000 and matched the success of her debut album. Radio play and television performances aided her in her rise to pop stardom. Subsequent albums such as Sudden Death (2001), Now Here (2004), Pianissima (2005), Leap of Truth (2007), and Victoria (2009) were successful as well. In 2012, she was a contestant on the South Korean televised talent competition I Am a Singer 2, where she performed the song “Butterfly,” which has become one of her most popular recordings. She also appeared on many other South Korean television shows including Immortal Songs (2015), Singing Battle (2016), King of Mask Singer (2016), and more. She continued to release albums to great acclaim from her fanbase including Corona (2013), The Seventh Spring (2014), U & I (2015), Love, Whatever (2015), and Best Studio Live Concert (2019).
