Biography

Harini (April 30, 1979) is an Indian classical music vocalist and playback singer from Chennai. She has collaborated closely with the Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada film industries, lending her voice to several box office hits and working with the most prominent composers in the genre. At the age of 4, she began to study Carnatic music under the tutelage of Radha Viswanathan, Sudha Raghunathan, and Suguna Purushotthaman. Her career took off after she won a school singing competition, earning the chance to record with renowned film composer A. R. Rahman. In 1995, she made her official debut in the Tamil film Indira with the song “Nila Kaigirathu.” Subsequently, she featured on over 3500 film soundtracks and won several awards for her work, including the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Female Playback in 1997 and 2003. Apart from her career in film, Harini is also known as a singer of Carnatic music and has released a collection of devotional songs in collaboration with singer P. Unni Krishnan in 2012.
