Biography

By blending indie-pop melodies with dance tempos, electronics, and experimental sounds, half•alive became a Top 10 success on Billboard's Alternative Airplay chart during the late 2010s. The group formed in 2016 in Long Beach, California, where lead singer Josh Taylor had previously performed with The Moderates. Joined by drummer Brett Kramer, half•alive debuted in 2017 with a three-song EP, 3, whose tracks earned more than 100 digital streams within four years. Bassist J. Tyler Johnson joined the group shortly after 3's release, and the newly-minuted trio released its first full-length album, Now, Not Yet, in August 2019. Now, Not Yet peaked at Number 15 on the US Top Alternative Albums chart, Number 46 on Top Rock Albums, and Number 1 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart. It also spawned two singles: "Runaway," which reached Number 29 on Alternative Airplay, and the gold-certified "Still Feel," which rose to Number 7 on Alternative Airplay and Number 21 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. By 2021, the band had begun to release material from a new album, Give Me Your Shoulders, Pt. 1, with "What's Wrong" reaching Number 26 on the Alternative Airplay chart. The album itself arrived in 2022, the same year that another track, "Move Me," hit Number 37 on Alternative Airplay.
