Greg Perry is the name of American soul singer and songwriter who wrote a number of soul and funk hits during the 1970s. His musical career began in the 1960s working alongside producer Billy Davis at Chess Records, Chicago. He recorded two solo albums, One for the Road, released by Casablanca Records in 1975 and, Smokin', via RCA in 1977. The latter of which featured the hit single, "Howâs you love life Baby?" which was later covered by American R&B singer Jackie Moore in 1979. Perry also produced albums for Chairmen of the Board, Freda Payne, and Honey Cone (featuring his future wife, Edna Wright). In 1977, he produced his wife's only solo album, Oops! Here I Go Again, for RCA Victor. During the 1970s he was also one-third of a hit-making trio consisting of Perry, songwriter General Johnson, and lyricist Angelo Bond, the writing team who were responsible for many of the hottest records to come from Hot Wax Records, Detroit. His influence and longevity has continued well into the 21st century with the Kanye West-produced track, "Drivin' Me Wild" (performed by Common and featuring Lily Allen in 2007), which sampled the Perry produced song, "Innocent Til Proven Guilty".
