Grażyna Bacewicz Biernacka, born on February 5, 1909 in Åódź, Poland, was a Polish composer and violinist of Lithuanian origin. She began studying music at a young age under her father's guidance. In 1928, she enrolled at the Warsaw Conservatory, studying violin with Józef JarzÄbski and composition with Kazimierz Sikorski. After graduating in 1932, Bacewicz continued her studies with Nadia Boulanger in Paris. Her career as a composer and performer took shape during this period. In 1945, she composed her Symphony No. 1. A car accident in 1954 led her to focus solely on composition. Her works, including seven violin concertos and four symphonies, gained widespread acclaim and became a feature at the Warsaw Autumn Festival starting in 1956. Bacewicz passed away on January 17, 1969 in Warsaw.
