Biography

John Gorka is an American singer-songwriter born in 1958 in Colonia, New Jersey. He graduated from Moravian College in 1980 and began performing as a solo artist at the Godfrey Daniels coffee house. In 1984, he was named one of the winners of the New Folk competition at the Kerrville Folk Festival. Gorka released his debut studio album, I Know, in 1987 through the label Red House Records. During his career, he has performed with artists including Suzanne Vega and Shawn Colvin. In 2010, he formed the folk supergroup Red Horse with Lucy Kaplansky and Eliza Gilkyson, which issued a self-titled studio album. His recording history also included the albums Writing in the Margins (2006), Bright Side of Down (2014) and unentitled (2025).
