Gordon Parsons, born on December 24, 1926, in Paddington, Sydney, Australia, was a country music singer. At age 14, he left his parents' farm and began working as a sleeper-cutter. His early musical breakthrough came when he won second prize in Terry Dearâs Australian Amateur Hour radio talent quest, leading to his first recordings with Regal Zonophone Records in 1947. Parsons toured extensively with various acts, including Slim Dusty and Chad Morgan. In 1956, he composed "A Pub With No Beer", inspired by a poem given to him. The song became a hit when recorded by Slim Dusty in 1957, reaching Number 1 in Ireland and the UK, and becoming Australia's first gold record. Parsons was inducted into the Australian Roll of Renown in 1982. He died on August 17, 1990, at age 63.
