Biography

Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, an 18-piece jazz ensemble based in California, was founded in 1999 by Gordon Goodwin. The band combines big band swing with contemporary genres like funk and jazz fusion. Goodwin, who was working as a composer for Warner Brothers cartoons at the time, formed the group after being inspired by Count Basie's music at age 13. Their debut album, Swingin' For The Fences, released in 2000, marked the first recording on DVD-Audio and earned two Grammy nominations. Subsequent albums include XXL (2003), Bah, Humduck! A Looney Tunes Christmas (2006), and Act Your Age (2008). The band has received several accolades, including a Grammy Award for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album for Life In The Bubble in 2016. Notable collaborations include performances with Dave Siebels and featured soloists such as Arturo Sandoval and Brian McKnight.
