Gitarkameratene, a Norwegian folk music supergroup, was formed in 1987 when Lillebjørn Nilsen, Halvdan Sivertsen, and Ãystein Sunde performed together at the Sarpsborg music festival. The trio invited Jan Eggum to join, forming a quartet that released their debut album Gitarkameratene in 1988. Their second album, Typisk Norsk, was released in 1989 and won the Spellemannsprisen for Best Folk Album in 1990. The group toured extensively until 1994, when they took a hiatus to focus on solo projects. They reunited periodically for tours and recordings, notably releasing Kanon - det beste fra Gitarkameratene Live! in 2010. Nilsen's health issues led to the group's eventual disbandment following his death in January 2024.
