Biography

Born February 6, 1985 in Foligno, Italy, Giovanni Guidi is a jazz pianist and bandleader who is also known for his work alongside trumpeter Enrico Rava. He is considered to be one of the most talented and original players on the European jazz scene. At a young age, Guidi began studying piano. After studying with Ramberto Ciammarughi throughout his schooling and inter conservatory, he was discovered by Rava, who asked him to join one of his ‘Under 21’ groups. Guidi made his debut as a bandleader on the 2006 album Tomorrow Never Knows. He then appeared on two of Rava’s albums recorded for ECM Records: Tribe (2006) and On the Dance Floor (2010). He signed with the C.A.M. Jazz label and released a string of albums including Indian Summer (2007), the big band- influenced The Unknown Rebel Band (2009), and We Don’t Live Here Anymore (2011). Guidi signed with ECM and released City of Broken Dreams in 2013. He followed that album with This is The Day (2015), Ida Lupino (2016), Drive! (2018), and Avec le Temps (2019). During his career, he also worked as a sideman with jazz greats such as drummers Tommaso Cappellato and Fabrizio Sferra, saxophonist Mauro Negri and guitarist Roberto Cecchetto.
