Giorgio Azzolini, born on March 25, 1928, in La Spezia, Italy, was an Italian double bass player and composer. He studied under Antonio Godoli in Florence and later in Milan. Azzolini's career began with the original lineup of Gianni Basso and Oscar Valdambrini's Jazz Quintet in 1955. Throughout the 1960s, he led his own groups and performed at major international jazz festivals. Azzolini collaborated with notable artists including Chet Baker, Billie Holiday, and Stéphane Grappelli. He also worked as a studio musician and accompanied pop artists such as Johnny Dorelli and Ornella Vanoni on tours. His discography includes albums like Azzolini's Spanish Portrait (1973), The Scicluna Street (1976), and Tribute To Someone (1998). He passed away on April 12, 2024, in Milan.
