Biography

Gino Parks, born Gene Purifoy on June 26, 1933 in Fairfield, Alabama, was an American R&B singer. He sang with gospel groups in his teens and attended Miles College before moving to Detroit in 1954. There, he met Andre Williams and joined the Five Dollars, recording "Bacon Fat" for Fortune Records in 1956. In 1960, Parks signed with Motown Records and released "Blibberin' Blabberin' Blues" in 1961. He moved to Golden World Records, releasing "Talkin' About My Baby"/ "My Sophisticated Lady" in 1966, and recorded "Nerves of Steel" for the Crazy Horse label in 1967. Parks left the music business in 1968 and worked for the Atlanta Life Insurance Company. His records gained popularity among the UK's Northern soul followers. He returned to occasional performances, appearing at festivals in 2003 and 2013.
