Ginger Bakerâs Air Force was a British jazzârock fusion supergroup formed in late 1969 by drummer Ginger Baker after the dissolution of Blind Faith. The original lineup included Steve Winwood, Ric Grech, Jeanette Jacobs, Denny Laine, Phil Seamen, Alan White, Chris Wood, Graham Bond, Harold McNair, and Remi Kabaka, with later additions such as Eleanor Barooshian. The ensemble debuted with live performances at Birmingham Town Hall and the Royal Albert Hall in 1969 and 1970, and released its first studio album Ginger Bakerâs Air Force on 30 March 1970, recorded live at the Royal Albert Hall, followed by Ginger Bakerâs Air Force 2 on 10 December 1970, recorded at Trident and Olympic Studios, both issued by Polydor. The group also issued the single "Man Of Constant Sorrow" in 1970 and the live album Live in Offenbach, Germany 1970 in 2010. Touring highlights included a 19 April 1970 Wembley Stadium set during the World Cup Rally and a 24 May 1970 performance at the Hollywood Music Festival. After a brief disbandment, Ginger Baker revived the project as Ginger Bakerâs Air Force 3 in 2015, announcing a world tour that was ultimately cancelled in early 2016 due to Ginger Bakerâs serious heart problems, and the group performed a single London show on 26 January 2015. Ginger Baker died in October 2019, concluding the bandâs brief but influential presence in the early 1970s jazzâfusion scene.
