Gil Gutiérrez, born May 1, 1962, in Oaxaca, Mexico, is a virtuoso guitarist and composer. He initially studied sculpture, painting, and ceramics at the art academy in Oaxaca before transitioning to music. At age fourteen, he began playing classical guitar in restaurants and caught the attention of Wolfgang âLoboâ Fink. Gutiérrez later moved to Mexico City to study jazz, earning money by performing on city buses. He has collaborated with notable artists such as Ana Gabriel and Ricardo Arjona, and performed at venues including Carnegie Hall and Millennium Park. His albums include Lagrima Del Toro (2005), Adios nonino (2013), and The Sound of Latin Jazz (2013). Gutiérrez is known for his ability to blend classical, jazz, and flamenco styles, and has performed with symphony orchestras across the United States. He is also the band leader and musical director of the San Miguel 5, which includes Grammy Award-winning violinist Charlie Bisharat.
