Biography
George Daugherty, born in 1955 in Pendleton, Indiana, is an American conductor. He began studying piano at age four and later took up cello. Daugherty's early career included conducting the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra and founding The Pendleton Festival Symphony in the mid-1970s. His professional debut came in 1976 with a performance featuring Metropolitan Opera soprano Roberta Peters. In 1979, he made his major symphony orchestra debut with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Daugherty has since conducted numerous international ballet companies and major symphony orchestras, including the Cleveland Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and New York Philharmonic. Notable engagements include performances at Avery Fisher Hall in 2015 and Symphony Hall in 2017. His work extends to conducting for American Ballet Theatre, Munich State Opera and Ballet, and various international opera houses. Daugherty has also conducted major choral ensembles such as the Harvard Glee Club and The Westminster Symphonic Choir.
