Biography

Francesco Di Giacomo, born on August 22, 1947, in La Caletta, Sardinia, was an Italian singer and lyricist. At age five, he moved to Rome with his family. In 1971, during the Caracalla Pop Festival, Di Giacomo met keyboardist Vittorio Nocenzi and formed the progressive rock band Banco del Mutuo Soccorso. The group made its recording debut in 1972, achieving critical acclaim and commercial success. Di Giacomo served as lead vocalist and lyricist for most of the band's repertoire from 1971 until his departure in 2013. His solo collaborations included artists such as Sam Moore, Eugenio Finardi, and Elio e le Storie Tese. Besides his musical career, he appeared in bit parts in Federico Felliniâs films Fellini Satyricon, Roma, and Amarcord. Di Giacomo died on February 21, 2014, in a car accident. His posthumous solo album La parte migliore was released in 2019.
