Biography

Gabriel Feltz, born in East Berlin on June 17, 1971, was a conductor. He studied at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin, graduating in 1994 with degrees in conducting and piano. His early career included assistant positions under Gerd Albrecht at the Hamburg State Opera and engagements at the Lübeck Municipal Theatre and Bremen Theatre. Feltz's breakthrough came when he became general music director of the Thüringen Theatres and Philharmonic in Gera/Altenburg from 2000 to 2005. He has since conducted notable orchestras such as the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne. From 2013 to 2025, Feltz served as general music director at Dortmund Theatre, leading the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra. He was also the chief conductor of the Belgrade Philharmonic from 2017 until his death in Essen, on August 29, 2025. Notable recordings include Mahler: Symphony No. 3 (2011) and Symphonie N°4 (2012).
