Frederick Anthony Jackson, born October 2, 1956, in New York City, is an American soul and R&B singer, songwriter, and pianist who began his musical journey playing piano in local churches and performing in regional clubs. In the late 1970s, he joined the New York-based funk and R&B band Mystic Merlin as a vocalist, appearing on the group's albums Mystic Merlin (1981), Sixty Thrills a Minute (1982), and Full Moon (1983). After leaving the band, he signed with Capitol Records and launched his solo career with the hit single "Rock Me Tonight (For Old Time Sake)" in 1985. The song topped the Billboard R&B chart and led to his debut album, Rock Me Tonight (1985), establishing him as one of the leading male R&B vocalists of the decade. Freddie Jackson followed with the 1986 release Just Like the First Time, and in 1988 issued Don't Let Love Slip Away, which solidified his presence on the R&B charts. The early 1990s saw a steady output, including Time for Love (1992), Here It Is (1994), Private Party (1995), and Life After 30 (1999), each reflecting his smooth vocal style and dedication to romantic ballads. Freddie Jacksonâs later career encompassed It's Your Move (2004), Transitions (2006), For You (2010), Love Signals (2018), and the live recording Live in Concert (2000) and the retrospective For Old Times Sake: The Freddie Jackson Story (1996).
