Biography
Blasted Mechanism is a Portuguese alternative rock band formed in 1995 by Valdjiu and Karkov. Combining rock with electronic music and world music influences, the group is known for its elaborate extraterrestrial-inspired stage personas and for building custom instruments such as the calachacra and bambuleco. Their albums include Plasma (1999), Namaste (2003), and Sound in Light (2007), which featured collaborations with António Chainho, Rão Kyao, and Transglobal Underground. After Karkov left in 2008, Blasted Mechanism released Mind at Large (2009), featuring a new single with a new vocalist. Blasted Mechanism received multiple nominations for the MTV Europe Music Awards' Best Portuguese Act and won the Sociedade Independente de Comunicação's 2006 Golden Globe for Best Portuguese Band. In 2026, they released the live album Live MEO Arena Sala Tejo.
