Biography

Peter Frederick Wedlock, known professionally as Fred Wedlock, was born on May 23, 1942, in Bristol, United Kingdom and is an English folk singer who began his career after teaching in London and Bristol during the 1960s. Wedlock's breakthrough came with his hit single "The Oldest Swinger in Town", which reached number 6 on the UK Singles Chart in early 1981. This song was later covered by German comedian Karl Dall as "Der älteste Popper der Stadt". Throughout his career, Wedlock released several albums including The Folker (1971), Frollicks (1973), Out of Wedlock (1978), and Fred Wedlock Live (1982). He was also known for his performances at various venues in Britain and Europe, as well as his work on West Country TV. In 1997, he took a leading role in Bristol Old Vic's production of Up the Feeder, Down the Mouth, a theatrical history of Bristol Docks. Wedlock passed away on March 4, 2010, following a heart attack after contracting pneumonia.
