Biography
The Young Tradition, an English folk group, was formed on April 18, 1965, by Peter Bellamy, Royston Wood, and Heather Wood. The trio initially gained recognition for their unaccompanied vocal arrangements of traditional British folk music, drawing heavily from the repertoire of the Copper Family. Their debut album, The Young Tradition, was released in 1966, followed by the EP Chicken on a Raft in 1967 and the album So Cheerfully Round (1967). The group's final studio album, Galleries (1968), featured collaborations with Dolly Collins and David Munrow. In 1969, The Young Tradition disbanded due to differing musical preferences. Notable post-breakup releases include The Holly Bears the Crown (1995) and a live recording from Oberlin College in 1968, released as Oberlin 1968 in 2013. Heather Wood continued her involvement in folk music until her death on July 15, 2024.
