Fred Buscaglione, born Ferdinando Buscaglione on November 23, 1921, in Turin, Italy, was a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who began his musical career at age 11. During World War II, he joined the orchestra of an allied radio station in Cagliari. In 1949, Buscaglione formed Asternovas and wrote hits like "Teresa non spara" (1956) and "Che Bambola!" (1961). His first LP, Fred Buscaglione & i suoi Asternovas, was released in 1956. Other notable songs include "Guarda che luna" (1959) and "Love in Portofino" (1958). By the end of the decade, he was one of Italy's most popular artists, appearing on radio, television, and in films. Buscaglione died in a car accident on February 3, 1960.
