Biography

Natale Codognotto, also known as Natalino Otto, born on December 24, 1912, in Cogoleto, Italy, was an Italian singer, music editor, and record producer. He began performing across Liguria before emigrating to work on transatlantic ships in the 1930s, where he encountered American jazz and swing. Otto's breakthrough came in 1934 with a stint at an Italian-American radio station in New York. Upon returning to Italy, he introduced a repertoire inspired by American music but faced censorship due to the fascist regime’s ban on foreign influences. Despite this, his recordings and theatrical performances gained popularity. Otto participated in five editions of the Festival di Sanremo, achieving notable success with "Canto nella valle" in 1955. He also acted in films such as Tutta la città canta. Natalino Otto passed away on October 4, 1969, in Milan.
