Francis-Alfred Moerman, born on May 13, 1937, in Gand, Belgium, was a Belgian-French guitarist known for his contributions to gypsy jazz. As a child, he was influenced by a group of Romani people who visited his family's property annually. In 1960, Moerman moved to Paris and began his professional music career, initially accompanying Sarane Ferret on guitar. He later collaborated with notable artists such as Pierre Baro Ferret, Matelo Ferret, Lousson Baumgartner-Reinhardt, Vivian Villerstein, and Jacques Montagne. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Moerman taught English at various institutions while also forming quartets and performing with other musicians. His notable works include albums like L'Infini Voyage (1986) and Valses Manouches (1994). He also composed the operettas Le Sultan à Versailles, which was performed at the Théâtre royal de Rabat, and Prince et Corsaire. Moerman passed away on July 11, 2010.
