Franz "Schnuckenack" Reinhardt, born February 17, 1921, in Weinsheim, Rhineland Palatinate, Germany, was a gypsy jazz musician, violinist, interpreter, and composer. He began playing music at an early age with his family, who were German Sinti musicians. During the Nazi era, he was deported to CzÄstochowa, Poland, where he survived despite the persecution of his family. In 1967, Reinhardt formed the Schnuckenack Reinhardt Quintett, inspired by Django Reinhardt's Quintette du Hot Club de France. The quintet released several albums, including Musik Deutscher Zigeuner (1969). He continued to perform and record throughout his career, releasing compilation albums such as Starportrait in 1975. He also released the album, 'S Wonderful Swing! in 1977. Notable members included Häns'che Weiss and Bobby Falta. He died on April 15, 2006, at the age of 85.
