Biography

Brought up in Glasgow, Fran Healy was given his first guitar at 13 and started playing old rock'n'roll hits. Soon writing his own songs - his opening effort was Mr Mullen Blues about his school headmaster - he played in various school bands before joining a group called Glass Onion. They changed their name to Travis (named after the main character in the movie Paris, Texas) and came to refer to their first single All I Want To Do Is Rock in 1996 as their theme song. Healy's engaging voice and lyrical, melodic songs became the centrepiece of Travis's impressive run of success through the rest of the 1990s and 2000s before Healy released his debut solo album Wreckorder in 2010 on his own label, which included contributions from Paul McCartney, Neko Case and Tom Hobden of Noah & the Whale. Featuring the single Buttercups, it also led to various solo appearances.
