Biography
Floyd Robinson, born on 10 August 1932 in Nashville, Tennessee, was an American singer known for his contributions to rock music. During his college years, he gained local recognition by participating in radio shows on Nashville stations WLAC and WSM. In the early 1950s, he formed The Eagle Rangers with Hank Williams, Jerry Rivers, Bob Moore, and Little Johnny Dickens. Floyd Robinson's first recordings were five singles released under the label Kong in 1954. That same year, he wrote "The Little Space Girl" for his cousin Jesse Lee Turner, which reached number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100. His breakthrough came with "Makin' Love", released in September 1959, which sold over a million copies in the United States and peaked at number nine in the UK in January 1960. The song was extensively broadcast across Europe and covered in multiple languages, including in French by Johnny Hallyday and Dalida as "T'aimer follement". Floyd Robinson continued to release singles with various labels, including RCA, Jamie, Dot, Groove, and United Artists, and took part in sessions for Duane Eddy. In 1972 and 1975, he recorded singles with Jesse Lee Turner. Floyd Robinson retired from music in 1985 and passed away on 28 May 2016.
