Arak Pacha is a Chilean Andean music and Latin American fusion group from Arica, formed in 1980. The group was founded by Johnny Pérez, Ãscar Nievas, José Luis Gamboa, José Santos, Juan Flores, and Jaime Vizcarra. The group's name is derived from the superior spiritual world in Andean cosmology. After performing in Peru and Ecuador, the band moved to Santiago, appearing on television programs such as Chilenazo and Sábados Gigantes. The group issued its self-titled debut studio album, Arak Pacha, in 1984 under the label Alerce. Subsequent albums include Por los Senderos del Indio (1987), Urusa Purk'iwa (1989), No se Llevaron el Sol (1995), and Inmortal (2006). In 2007, the project received the Premio Altazor in the Traditional and Folk Music category.
