Biography

Fflaps was a Welsh post-punk band from Bangor, Wales, active in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The trio consisted of vocalist and guitarist Ann Matthews, bassist Alan Holmes, and drummer Jonny Evans. The group released its debut EP, Untitled EP, in 1987 through Recordiau Anhrefn. Between 1988 and 1992, the group released three studio albums. The first, Amhersain, was recorded in three days and released in 1988 on the Liverpool label Probe Plus. This was followed by Malltod (1990) and the self-titled album Fflaps (1992). The band also recorded two Peel Sessions for BBC Radio 1 in 1988 and 1990. All of the group's songs were written in the Welsh language. Following the departure of Evans to continue his education, he was briefly replaced by Maeyc Hewitt for tours in 1992 and 1993. Fflaps became inactive in 1992, after which Matthews and Holmes formed the band Ectogram. Evans died on March 3, 2001.
