Biography
Jazz pianist Fergus McCreadie was born in Jameston, Scotland, on July 12, 1997. He grew up in the Clackmannashire town of Dollar, where he began playing the bagpipes in a band, before turning to the piano at the age of twelve. His parents bought him a second-hand instrument to practice on, followed by an electric piano. He studied at the Dollar Academy, then at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with Tommy Smith, who took him on as a member of his orchestra of young musicians. It was there that he met his future partners, bassist David Bowden and drummer Stephen Henderson, with whom he formed the Fergus McCreadie Trio. The trio's first self-produced album, Turas, was released in 2018, before signing with Edition Records for the following Cairn (2021), Forest Floor (2022) and Stream (2024). In 2023, McCreadie released his first solo EP, Sketches. In 2025, he reunited with his trio to record the Highest to Lowest EP for the film of the same name, followed by the album The Shielding, which reached number one in the British jazz and blues charts.
