Biography

Femmouzes T. is an all-female group, as its name suggests, named after "Famous Trobairitz" ("Troubadour Women"), which combines the English and Occitan languages. Founded in Toulouse in 1992 by Françoise Chapuis (vocals, tambourine, percussion) and Rita Macedo (vocals, accordion, berimbau), the duo was inspired by the Fabulous Trobadors, from the same city, who enjoyed great success at the time. Inspired by Brazilian music, the singers and musicians recorded an untitled debut album in 1996 on the independent label Willing Productions, before signing with Virgin for the next, 2 (2000), recorded in several studios including that of jazz drummer Bernard Lubat and enjoying wider distribution. The duo's French and Portuguese repertoire gave rise to a third album, Tripopular, released in 2005. During its existence, Femmouzes T. has performed on numerous international stages in Europe, Africa, Canada and Brazil. The singers have also collaborated with La Tordue and Bernard Lavilliers. Born in Valence on April 17, 1967, Françoise Chapuis died of cancer on January 31, 2023, at the age of 57.
