Biography

Essendon Airport is an Australian electronic and post-punk group from Melbourne that formed in 1978. The ensemble was established by the duo David Chesworth and Robert Goodge, who were joined in 1980 by the saxophonist Ian Cox and the drummer Paul Fletcher. Their debut release was the EP Sonic Investigations (Of the Trivial) (1980), followed by the single “Talking to Cleopatra” (1980) featuring the vocalist Anne Cessna. In 1982, the bassist Barbara Hogarth joined them, and they released the studio album Palimpsest (1982). Although the group disbanded in 1983, they resumed activity in 2003 and 2022. They released the single “Agua Por Favor” / “Ten Thousand Steps” (2022) and their second studio album, MOR, (2025). The ensemble received a nomination for the Best Independent Electronic Album or EP at the 2026 AIR Awards for MOR.
