Biography

Eskimo Joe, an Australian alternative rock band, was formed in 1997 in East Fremantle, Western Australia. The group consists of Stuart MacLeod on lead guitar, Joel Quartermain on drums and guitar, and Kavyen Temperley on bass guitar and vocals. Initially a side project called Freud's Pillow, Eskimo Joe gained traction after winning the national final of the National Campus Band Competition in 1997, which led to their first gigs and studio recording sessions. Eskimo Joe signed with Universal Records' alternative offshoot Modular in 1999 and released their debut album Girl, produced by Ed Buller. The album reached number 29 on the ARIA Albums Chart and was certified gold, featuring tracks like "Who Sold Her Out" and "Planet Earth". In 2002, they signed with Festival Mushroom Records and released A Song Is a City, which peaked at number 2 and achieved double platinum status. The album included hits such as "From the Sea" and "Older Than You". Their subsequent albums include Black Fingernails, Red Wine (2006), Inshalla (2009), Ghosts of the Past (2011), and Wastelands (2013). Eskimo Joe won eight ARIA Music Awards, notably four in 2006 for work associated with Black Fingernails, Red Wine. In 2020 they released "Say Something", their first single in seven years, following this with a greatest hits album The World Repeats Itself Somehow in 2021. In 2025 they returned with "Miracle Cure".
