Ernest Lee-Pickford Hines, born in 1938 in Jackson, Mississippi, is an American soul musician and singer-songwriter. After leaving college to play for a gospel group, he moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he formed his own singing group and played guitar behind notable artists such as Johnnie Taylor and Joe Valentine. In the late 1960s, Hines traveled to Chicago and recorded tracks eventually released by USA Records in 1967 and 1968. In 1970, he signed with Stax Records and released his first single "Help Me Put out the Flame". His album Electrified, released in 1972, gained a cult following in the 1990s and was reissued by Ace Records in 2010. In the 2000s, Hines continued his recording career with releases on his own Baby Blue Records label.
