Biography
Erick Manana is a Malagasy acoustic guitarist, singer, and songwriter born in 1959. He began learning the ba-gasy musical style from his grandfather at age five and relocated to France in 1979. His professional career began in 1982 as a member of the ensemble Lolo sy ny Tariny. Manana released his debut solo studio recording, Taniko, in 1996. He was a member of the group Feo-Gasy alongside sodina player Rakoto Frah. Manana received the Prix Media Adami Découvertes in 1994 and the Grand Prix du disque de l'académie Charles Cros in 1997 for the album Vakoka. In 2013, he performed at the Olympia in Paris for his thirty-fifth career anniversary and was named Commandeur de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. His discography included the collaborative recordings Madagascar All Stars and Vaonala (2017). Manana performed on tours with musicians including Jenny Fuhr and Joel Rabesolo.
