Biography
Samuel J. Coomes, born on April 23, 1964, in Sherman, Texas, was an American musician. He began playing in San Francisco with the underground pop band The Donner Party in 1983, releasing two albums before their disbandment in 1989. Coomes moved to Portland, Oregon, and formed Motorgoat with Janet Weiss in 1990, which evolved into Quasi in 1993. As a solo artist, he released the albums Bugger Me (2016) and True Death (2020). He also contributed to other significant projects, such as playing bass on Elliott Smith's album Figure 8 (2000), and performing as a guest keyboardist with Built to Spill on every album since Keep It Like a Secret. Coomes collaborated with artists including Sleater-Kinney, The Go-Betweens, and Jandek.
