Biography

John Du Prez, born Trevor Jones on December 14, 1946 in Sheffield, England, was a British conductor and composer. He began his career as a member of the salsa-driven pop band Modern Romance during the early 1980s, appearing on their debut album Adventures in Clubland (1981) and subsequent releases such as Trick of the Light (1983). Du Prez is best known for his trumpet solo on the cover version of "Cherry Pink (And Apple Blossom White)", which reached the UK top twenty in 1982. Du Prez also composed film scores, notably for Oxford Blues (1984) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990). He collaborated extensively with Monty Python, composing, conducting, and arranging for Monty Python’s Life of Brian (1979) and A Fish Called Wanda (1988), as well as the stage musical Spamalot.
