Ensemble FisFüz, also known as Oriental Jazz Ensemble FisFüz, was founded in 1995 by Annette Maye, a clarinetist born in Flensburg, Germany, and Murat CoÅkun, a Turkish percussionist from Freiburg. The group gained recognition through festival appearances and released their debut album Bosphorus Fishing in 1998, winning the SWR-Weltmusikpreis that same year. Their second album, SimSim, was released in Germany in 2000 and later in the USA in 2003. In 2004, Gürkan Balkan joined as a guitarist and oud player, forming a trio. The ensemble has performed internationally, including at the Ankara Jazz Festival (2009), Nikosia Jazz Festival (2012), and Sama Music Festival Khartoum (Sudan) in 2015. Notable releases include Mozart im Morgenland (2014) and their jubilee album Bonsai â 20 years of oriental Jazz (2016).
