Biography
Elvino Vardaro, born on June 18, 1905, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, was a violinist, composer, and conductor. He began studying music at the age of four, despite having lost the first phalanx of his right thumb, and made his professional debut in 1919 with a classical recital at Salón La Argentina. Vardaro started his tango career in 1922 by joining Juan Maglio "Pacho"'s orchestra. He later played with Roberto Firpo and Pedro Maffia's ensembles before co-directing a sextet with Osvaldo Pugliese and, in 1933, forming his own sextet with AnÃbal Troilo and other musicians. In the 1940s and early 1950s, he performed with various orchestras, including those led by Adolfo Pérez "Pocholo," Osvaldo Fresedo, JoaquÃn Do Reyes, and Fulvio Salamanca. In 1953, he formed an orchestra under his own name. Between 1955 and 1961, he was a member of Astor Piazzolla's string orchestra and quintet, and in his later years, he lived in Córdoba, performing with the provincial symphony orchestra until his death on August 5, 1971.
