Elke Best, born Elke DroÃard on December 18, 1956, in Duisburg, Germany, is a German singer known for her contributions to pop and Schlager music. Best began her musical journey as the lead vocalist of the Cologne-based group "Sandwich" in 1972. Her early singles included "Wohin Willst Du Gehen / Wie Kann Es Sein" (1972) and "Du Bist Die Erste Liebe" (1972). Peter Maffay and Michael Kunze produced several of her solo recordings during this period. Best's career saw significant milestones with the release of her albums Noch Ein Letztes Glas Im Steh'n (1975) and Die Babies Krieg' Immer Noch Ich (1977). Her biggest hit, "Die Babies Kriegâ Immer Noch Ich", was released in November 1976. Later, her music was produced by Gunter Gabriel. Best's discography includes notable songs such as "Fang Mich" (May 1976), "Hey Kleiner, Mit Dir Spielt Wohl Keiner" (1977), and cover versions of international hits like "Du Bist Der GröÃte" (1979) by Diana Ross. Best retired from the Schlager music scene in the early 1980s after moving to Hamburg.
