Ãlisabeth-Claude Jacquet de La Guerre, born in 1665 in Paris, France, was a French musician, harpsichordist and composer. She received her initial musical education from her father, Claude Jacquet, a harpsichord maker. At the age of five, she performed at the palace of Versailles for Louis XIV, which led to her becoming a musician in his court under royal patronage. Her first published collection, Les Pièces De Clavessin, was among the earliest printed French harpsichord works of the 17th century. In 1694, her opera Céphale Et Procris premiered at the Académie Royale de Musique, marking the first opera by a woman in France. She continued to compose in both vocal and instrumental forms throughout her life, contributing significantly to French Baroque music. Jacquet de La Guerre died in Paris in 1729.
