Elisabeth Grümmer, born Elisabeth Schilz on March 31, 1911, in Niederjeutz, Alsace-Lorraine, was a German soprano. She began her career studying theater and made her stage debut as Klärchen in Goethe's Egmont in Meiningen. Her operatic debut came in 1940 in Aachen, where she performed as First Flowermaiden in Wagner's Parsifal. Grümmer went on to perform in major opera houses across Europe and the United States, focusing primarily on roles sung in German. Notable performances include her role as Donna Anna in Mozart's Don Giovanni, conducted by Wilhelm Furtwängler and Ferenc Fricsay. She was also active in song recitals and concert performances, particularly of Brahms' German Requiem. Grümmer became a professor at the Berlin Musikhochschule (University of Music Berlin), where she taught notable students such as Astrid Schirmer and Janis Kelly. Her discography includes recordings of operas by Mozart, Wagner, and other composers. Grümmer died on November 6, 1986, in Warendorf, Westphalia.
