Biography

El Gran Martín Elías, born Martín Elías Díaz Acosta on June 18, 1990, in Valledupar, Colombia, was a prominent vallenato singer and the son of legendary artist Diomedes Díaz. He emerged as a key figure in the "Nueva Ola" of vallenato, blending traditional rhythms with modern sensibilities. Martín Elías began his musical journey performing with La Familia de Diomedes, and soon pursued a solo career, forming his own band in 2004. His early partnership with accordionist Rolando Ochoa led to the release of Una nueva historia in 2007, followed by Marcando la diferencia in 2008 and the independent hit Cosa de Locos in 2009. In 2012, Martín teamed up with Juancho De la Espriella for El Boom del Momento, earning widespread acclaim. He later reunited with Ochoa, releasing Imparables in 2015 under Sony Music Colombia, achieving a platinum certification. His final album, Sin Límites, released posthumously in 2017, was a commercial success, achieving triple platinum status. Tragically, Martín Elías passed away on April 14, 2017, after a car accident. His legacy endures through his contributions to modern vallenato, with hits like "El Fantasma" and "Diez Razones Para Amarte" remaining fan favorites.
