Eirik Hegdal (born October 3, 1973, in Gjøvik) is a Norwegian jazz saxophonist, composer, arranger, and music teacher. After studying piano and clarinet, he turned to the saxophone and attended the Trondheim Musikkonservatorium (1995â1998). During this period, Hegdal formed the quintet Dingobats, which released the albums The New Dingobats Generation (1998), Pöck (2001), and Follow (2004). He joined Zanussi Five in 2001 and became the director of the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra in 2002. Under his leadership, the orchestra collaborated with Joshua Redman for the 2006 work Space is Still the Place. Hegdal also performed with the Alpaca Ensemble, Angles 9, and Lord Kelvin. With his group Team Hegdal, he released the albums Vol 1 (2010) and Vol 2 (2011). In 2015, Hegdal received the Spellemannprisen in the jazz category for the album Vol 3.
