Biography

Egó was a rock band founded in Reykjavík, Iceland, in the fall of 1981 by Bubbi Morthens, his younger brother and guitarist Bergþór Morthens, and bassist Þorleifur Guðjónsson. The band's first drummer was Jóhann Richards, later replaced by Magnús Stefánsson. Egó's debut album, Breyttir Tímar, released on April 1, 1982, became one of the best-selling albums in Icelandic music history, reaching second place on the Icelandic album chart and remaining in the top 10 for 19 weeks. Their second album, Í Mynd, followed later that year. Internal conflicts and drug use led to several lineup changes, including the departure of Magnús Stefánsson and the addition of keyboardist Gunnar Rafnsson. The band's third and final album, Egó (released under the working title Bless or Goodbye), was released in 1984 due to contractual obligations. Despite disbanding shortly after, Egó reunited in 2001 to release a compilation titled Frá Upphafi til Enda.
