Edwin Franko Goldman was an American composer, conductor, and cornetist. After his fatherâs death, he moved to New York, where he studied cornet at the Hebrew Orphan Asylum under George Weigand and later with Jules Levy, and continued his musical education at the National Conservatory of Music under AntonÃn DvoÅák and other instructors. In 1901, he became principal cornetist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, a position he held until 1909. In 1911, he founded the New York Military Band, later renamed the Goldman Band in 1920. He also co-founded and became the first president of the American Bandmasters Association in 1929. Goldman died on February 21, 1956, in New York.
