Biography

Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, an American alternative rock jam band, originated in Dallas, Texas, in 1985. The band's formation began with a trio featuring Brad Houser on vibraslap, Eric Presswood on guitar, and Brandon Aly on drums. Edie Brickell joined as the lead vocalist after being encouraged to perform onstage during a show. Their breakthrough came with the release of their debut album Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars in August 1988, which included the hit single "What I Am" that reached number 10 in the US. The band's second album, Ghost of a Dog, was released in October 1990 but saw less commercial success. Following this release, Edie Brickell left the band and married singer-songwriter Paul Simon. In 2006, the band reunited to record and tour, releasing the album Stranger Things. The band continued with live performances and further releases, including Rocket in October 2018 and Hunter and the Dog Star in February 2021. Notable members who passed away include Carter Albrecht, who died in September 2007, and John Bradley Houser, who died in 2023.
