Biography

Originally steered by Stephen Duffy, a former member of hitmakers Duran Duran, the Lilac Time emerged on the folk-rock scene and became known for their delicate blend of folk, pop, and rock influences. Hailing from Herefordshire, the UK group expanded their lineup in 1986 to include Stephen Duffy's brother Nick Duffy and their friend Michael Weston. Their early albums, such as The Lilac Time (1987) and Paradise Circus (1989), drew comparisons to 1960s pop and the storytelling traditions of British folk music. They signed to the legendary Creation Records in 1990 and released Astronauts the following year. With Stephen Duffy’s distinct vocal style and songwriting at the forefront, the Lilac Time cultivated a devoted following, despite their lineup changing over the years. Subsequent albums like 2003's Keep Going, recorded as Stephen Duffy & The Lilac Time, Return to Us in 2019, and 2023's Dance Till All the Stars Come Down cemented their reputation as quiet pioneers in the British folk-rock scene.
