Edge of Sanity, a Swedish death metal band from Finspång, was formed in 1989 by Dan Swanö and Andreas "Dread" Axelsson. Their demo Kur-Nu-Gi-A (1990) secured a deal with Black Mark Productions. The debut album, Nothing But Death Remains, followed in 1991. In 1992, they released Unorthodox, which featured acoustic guitar parts and varied rhythms. The Spectral Sorrows (1993) incorporated progressive rock elements. The band's unique sound continued to evolve with acclaimed albums like Purgatory Afterglow (1994) and the experimental Crimson (1996). Despite internal tensions, Edge of Sanity released several notable works including Infernal and Cryptic in 1997. The band disbanded in 1999, but Dan Swanö briefly revived Edge of Sanity as a one-man project with session musicians in 2003 to record the sequel Crimson II. In 2024, Century Media Records and InsideOut Music reissued remastered and remixed editions of the band's catalogue.
