Biography
Eddie & the Showmen were an American surf rock band formed in Palos Verdes, California during the 1960s by Eddie Bertrand, who had previously been a member of the Bel-Airs. Eddie & the Showmen's music was characterized by a prominent lead guitar and heavy sound, influenced by Dick Dale. Notable members included former Mouseketeer Dick Dodd on drums and future jazz guitarist Larry Carlton on rhythm guitar. The band released several singles on Liberty Records, with their highest-charting single in Los Angeles being "Mr. Rebel" (1963), which reached number 4 on the Wallichs Music City Hit List on February 10, 1964. One of their other biggest hits, "Squad Car" (1963), was notably written by Paul Johnson of the Bel-Airs. Eddie Bertrand passed away from cancer in November 2012.
